Friday Fun: Twins Challenge – Office 365 vs Office 2019

I still get asked regularly about the differences between Office 365 and Office 2019 (formerly, Office 2016) that many schools still use. The above video takes a fun approach to highlight the differences, however if you’re after a more descriptive list then check out this link here.

Perhaps the key messages are:

  • Office 365 is a subscription service that ensures you always have the most up-to-date modern productivity tools from Microsoft.
  • Office 2019 is sold as a one-time purchase, which means you pay a single, up-front cost to get Office apps for one computer. However, there are no upgrade options which means if you plan to upgrade to the next major release, you’ll have to buy it at full price.

There’s even a free version of online apps only:

  • Office Online is a free version of Office that you can use in a web browser. All you need is to sign up for a Microsoft Account with a new or existing email address. Try the Office Online apps.

For schools, I strongly encourage the deployment of Office 365 to ensure that all the latest features are being delivered to teachers and students to help them in their learning. IF you’re after some advice and guidance on deploying Office 365 in your school, then check out this link.

I am always keen to discuss what I've written and hear your ideas so leave a reply here...
